X31 CMOS Battery

#1 Post by greddyUK » Thu Aug 16, 2007 4:48 pm

Hi

I have an X31 and get the 0192 : ibm embedded security hardware tamper detected.

I'm able to get into BIOS but changing the settings in there do not get rid of the error.
I don't know the history of the laptop so not sure what has happened to it before I got it.

I'm not sure what is causing it but the cheapest soloution would be to replace the CMOS battery and see if that fixes it.
So can any ibm thinkpad battery fit there or does it have to be the one from an x31?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

The X31 battery has a part number (FRU) of 02K7078 (obtained from the X3x Hardware Maintenance Manual), which probably fits several other Thinkpads. You can try eBay or here in the Marketplace forum. There are several different backup batteries that have been used throughout the years in the Thinkpads. Be careful that you are getting the proper one. What matters is the tiny connector at the end of the wires. I know that there's at least two different styles which do not fit into each other's motherboard socket. Good thing too, because the polarity of the wires are different!

0192: System Security. Embedded Security hardware tamper detected. Security chip ID matching failed. System board

Looks more fatal to me...someone may have set a system password and you cannot get past that problem to my knowledge. Will a new bios battery fix that problem? Maybe not.

I read on here ( I think ) that if a motherboard swap was done and the security chip that sits on the infra red circuit board isn't cahnged over two then this error would occur.
That means unless I can somehome force the two to pair up I need a new x31 motherboard..
Anyone on here got a 100% working one?
