Strange Messages in my X40

#1 Post by pphilipko » Wed Oct 27, 2004 7:01 pm

Hi guys,

It seems that occasionally, some programs disappear from my X40 when I boot it up, i.e. Microsoft Word, Ad-Aware, Firefox…etc. As well, when I start various programs, there is an error message, something like “0x73db23892k5 cannot be read”…and occasionally, an I/O error. Is anyone else having these problems? Is it because my memory has gone bad? Thanks!

Do you regularly run any cleaning agents like Ad-aware, S&D, PP, and/or Norton OBC from Systemworks? If not, I suggest you do so as a first step.

Good luck

I've already run ad-aware, and s&s, and there weren't any malware found except for DSO Exploits. What should I do? :?

What os are you on and how much ram do you have? Have you tried any resident tools? I take it you don't have Norton tools.

I have the X40 2371-AV0 with 512mb of ram. And yes, I don't have any Norton tools, unfortunately. :(

What Operating System (OS) are you running is what I meant.

Anyway, sounds like you have plenty enough ram but try using this little utility, FreeRAM XP Pro, and see if the problem still exist after enough time has elapsed. Also, have you run a defrag lately?

Those programs you mentioned, do you actually loose the entire MS Word, Ad-aware, etc? Do you mean to say you have to re-install them after this happens?

BTW, DSO exploits is no big deal, keep 'em or delete 'em, it's up to you.

oh, I'm on wxp. Yes, I've degramented my drive last week.

The only things left are the shortcuts to the programs; the program itself disappears! I'll try the program you recommended and see if the problems persist. Thanks for your help. :)

Those times when the programs disappear after booting up do you get a message saying something about the system being recovered from a fatal error or something in that effect?

That's really weird, I've never heard of entire programs disappearing.

If it continues I'm afraid I'll have to revert to the standard paid-for support response: Format your HDD and re-install.
