Dead X31

i have an x31 up untill the other night.it did some widows updates on shutting down.now when you turn it on the power light comes on you can hear the fan and thats it.the hard drive light never comes on and the screen stays blank..any ideas what route to go down trying to repair it???

The screen is completely dark but there are no beeps, either? If your disk were dead, I would expect to see that error displayed on the screen.

Can you check with a bright light or flashlight to see whether there is something being displayed on the screen (but possibly not visible because of the lack of backlighting)?

i have just checked the screen.its blank and there is no bleeps the only sound is a fan running

Can you remove the memory module(s) and try starting? This should definitely give you beeps -- if it does not, then it's not even getting as far as the memory check.

sorry i'm not quite sure what you mean by memory module.some time diffrent words for the same thing

At the bottom of your X31, there is a cover behind which you will find the memory modules (cards/sticks) for the system. Without these, the system will not run -- it will simply beep an error code when you turn it on.
