X41 Tablet - Bluetooth help please?

#1 Post by GlynH » Fri Aug 24, 2007 1:01 am

Hi there,

Apologies for the second try as no replies in over a week...I want to fit 3 Bluetooth cards ASAP followed by another 10 as soon as I get the initial ones working...I'll keep it shorter this time :-)

1. BMDC200 Rev B FRU P/N 93P3471 - is this the correct part number for the X41 Tablet?

2. Where do you guys fit the BT antenna on the TabletPC? Doesn't seem to be enough room in the trapdoor area without risk of shorting. Not enough room under the keyboard and dismantling the screen seems fraught with danger to me?

3. When attempting to pair the device (phone, iPAQ etc.) sees the Tablet & vice versa, prompts for a passkey, connects but then immediately drops the BT connection and thereafter will not reconnect again.

4. Using XP SP2 fully patched from both MS & IBM shows the IBM BT III card after FN + F5 to turn it on. Installing the later BT EDR drivers from IBM adds a second BT icon but the newer software does not see the BT card - only the older one. Even if older software is removed first it still comes back giving 2 occurrences of the BT icon.

Can some kind soul please offer help and assistance?

If more in-depth info is required please see my first post entitled Retrofit Bluetooth issues.

Thanks & kind regards,

Did you ever consider you might be breaking new ground here? If you are not getting responses to your post, try using the Search button at the top of the page. Usually selecting the "Search for all terms" radio button works best when you are using more than one word in your searches.

Regarding #4 above, check out my solution near the bottom of the following thread. This was for bluetooth on a T42.

I suspect you may have wrong card...and or software.

My x41 tablet has Integrated Bluetooth IV....which I believe is included with XP SP2.

I would visit www.lenovo.com and:

1. Check for proper bluethooth daughter card

2. Go to support and downloads section and look up Bluetooth to find information for the Integrated Bluetooth IV support file and follow the instructions.

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies guys...

I have been around long enough to do a search before I ask a question

Saw many BT threads but no conclusive answer...hence my post(s).

After trying in earnest over the last two days I found a solution that worked for me - details below - if it prevents some other poor, unfortunate soul going through what I went through trying to get it to work then it may have been worth the grief!

The card I have may or not be the correct one for the X41 Tablet - I have no way of knowing as I could not see anything on the IBM website to confirm/deny this nor nor did anyone reply to my question - I would still like to know as I now need to buy another 14 of them now I have got it to work!

It was when I was trawling through some old adverts for the same card that I saw a link to IBM for Bluetooth drivers.

These however were different from the two types I had already tried as in much, much older - 15th March 2004 to be precise.

Also the readme text file makes no mention of compatability with the X41 Tablet - no surprise there as it predates it by more than a year!

Installed the driver package and the usual thing happened - IBM Bluetooth III showed up as well as the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator along with two icons in the tooltray - one showing red - device not found. :(

This time however when updating the driver manually for IBM Bluetooth III and telling it to look in the folder where the driver software had extracted it [C:\Drivers\WIN\BDCACT] it managed to load the unsigned Widcom driver that it had failed to do with other driver revisions and hey presto it started to load all manner of stuff... :D

One reboot later and with only one icon in the tooltray now showing a white logo instead of red I managed to pair my 'phone! :thumbs-UP:

Checked it out and all seems OK for now...

Well I thought, now this is working I can update to the later IBM EDR driver package 7jba08ww.exe

Went through the same process including the last bit but it would not load the correct driver despite my telling it the location. :banghead:

Just could not get it to work...same old problems so had no alternative but to drop back to the older package bthwxp1o.exe

If anyone has the same problem here is the url to the driver package that worked for me - ymmv;

Thanks for listening...
