Safest battery to get for x24

#1 Post by istel » Sat Aug 25, 2007 11:03 pm

A big hi to all x series thinkpad owners :)

Just recently acquired a 2nd hand x24 thinkpad.
However, I realised that the batt given to me by the previous owner is totally out of charge.

After googling through the web and locating this forum.
I've decided to ask everyone's opinion on where I can purchase a ibm made or a high quality non-oem battery for x24.

Here's a few links that I've managed to find.

http://www.battery-info.net/laptop-batt ... ies536.htm

http://www.global-battery.co.uk/laptop- ... ies536.htm#

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... RK:MEWA:IT

My question is that, some of the pictures being shown on some of these websites actually have an IBM logo, does that mean the battery they sell actually are from IBM itself?

If not, which non-oem battery should I look for? I don't want my x24 to go up in flames due to the fact that I used a shoddy cheap battery.

Thanks a lot in advance to everyone and I've really learned quite a few things in this forum. Hoping to participate more in the future discussions here :)

If you are willing to send your old battery in, I (and a couple other forum members I think) would recommend batteryrefill.com. The shipping can be quite long, but the price is great and I think the quality is decent. BTI also makes quality batteries that are available from a number of outlets online. Of course, you could always buy from IBM, but those batteries tend to be the most expensive available...

Hi Spirit,

Thanks a lot for the reply. Initially, I wanted to send my battery to batteryrefill.com. However, after reading a few reviews regarding online resellers, the rating that batteryrefill.com gets is really bad.

People were complaining about having to send and resend their battery a couple of times and ended up having dead batteries on hand. I'm currently in Singapore, so sending it to and fro to the States will result in a higher cost than just purchasing a new battery out right.

BTI = Battery-info.net? Would love to buy from IBM but the cost of the battery + shipping to Singapore is just way too much to justify for a 2nd hand laptop... My budget range is less than 100 usd so I would like to find a decent battery that does not "explodes" in that range.

Cheers :)

Sir, No.

Lenovo does not manufacture any batteries, certain companies for instance Sanyo, Sony, Panasonic etc manufacture it for lenovo and the oem vendors follow the battery standards given by these companies to manufacture compatible batteries for lenovo. I was going to suggest to buy from lenovo but since you're on budget so you can hunt ebay or any other place for part # 02K6651 .

Good Luck!

Hmm... okay, so I supposed then Sanyo, Sony and Panasonic are the OEM battery makers for IBM?

I've seen battery-online and a few sites having the IBM logo on the battery itself on their pictures. While other sites just shows a similar battery but without the IBM logos.

Does this mean that battery-online is selling the original OEM batteries that was meant for IBM?

Would like to clarify this. Thanks a lot :)

IBM logo is registered trademark of IBM and no one is alllowed to use it other than IBM or lenovo.

So, I am not sure whether these 3rd party batteries should even come with IBM logo, IMHO they don't and the pictures you saw online could be merely for display purposes.

You can ask the vendors about the source of these batteries, FYI only IBM/lenovo and IBM business partners carry the original batteries.
