My Thinkpad x40 has white spots on the LCD screen.

#1 Post by jromulo » Mon Aug 27, 2007 2:27 pm

Hello all,

I recently purchased a used Thinkpad x40 and my LCD screen has white spots on it. It's not that big of a deal, but it would be a lot better if it didn't have it. Anyone here have that same issue? What is the best way of getting this issue resolved? The laptop is no longer under warranty btw. Thanks for the help everyone.

Unfortunately, the only way to rid your screen of those white spots is to replace the LCD. My X40 had the same problem, but was replaced under warranty. Since your warranty expired, your best bet would be to find one on eBay for around $200.

Do you know what caused the white spots? Any way to prevent that from happening in the future just in case I do decide to replace the LCD screen.

I have found that the most common cause is a lot of pressure on the screen, so don't lay any large objects on top of the X40 or put it in a bag with a lot of books unless you have a hard case for it. I have also noticed with my X20 that the cable behind the LCD can cause these pressure marks, but as long as everything is seated properly when you reassemble the unit it should not be a problem.
