Blank LCD on X23 When Undocked

#1 Post by atobisda » Tue Aug 28, 2007 7:51 pm

Hi Folks,

I just bought an X23 a week ago and it was working fine until today when I just get a blank LCD. I'm pretty sure it still boots up because I can see the HD icon flickering even if I don't see anything in the screen.

I borrowed a docking station for my troubleshooting and the X23 LCD is fine when powered through the docking station.

Based on some posts that I see here my guess is that it might be the inverter.

I'm pretty handy with desktops and this will be the first time I open up a notebook for servicing so I'd like to minimize the number of components I take apart for the repair.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Ato

A couple of things you can try:

Press Fn-F7 a few times and see if you can start up the LCD that way - my X20 sometimes gets stuck on external display mode only.

Shine a bright light onto the 'blank' display while the computer is running - if you see anything that looks like Windows, it's most likely the inverter.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried the Fn-F7 keystrokes several times to no avail and I don't see anything using the flashlight (although the LCD backlight is on).

The problem is actually much worse now since I now also get a blank display even when the X23 is docked.

Regards,
Ato
