Is the firewire port on the X31 powered?

#1 Post by Quattro » Tue Aug 28, 2007 11:23 pm

Just bought a M-Audio Firewire soundcard, and it can be powered either via firewire cable or wall-plug. Just wondering if the X31 is able to power such a device through the firewire port?

The FireWire port on the X31 is a 4-pin port, and therefore does not provide power over the bus. The 6-pin variety (found on Macintosh computers made in the last 7 years or so) provides bus power. You will have to use a wall outlet for your sound card.

Not a problem. I'm happy when my Mac info transfers over to ThinkPads!

Yay! 500 posts!
