Anyone try X31 onboard CF for Vista Readyboost?

#1 Post by backfromMac » Wed Aug 29, 2007 6:47 am

Just wondering if the onboard slot has a fast enough bus speed to work with a hi speed CF card to use ready boost. Cheaper route then going from 1gb>2gb.

Anyone have any success or failures with this?

Thanks, Kevin

CF is the fastest type of flash available, hence its use by professional photographers... :)
However, actual speeds will vary according to the "quality" of the card you buy, as they might have different specs...
(CF cards have the controller on the card itself)
Sandisk's Extreme series is about the fastest you can buy...

Hope that helps... :)

Thanks for the response I am surprised no one has tried it, yet!

I might not be right about what I said above...
I just tried reading/writing off the integrated compact flash slot on an X20 and it was pretty slow, 1~2MB/s, even though I have a pretty fast card capable of 40MB/s....
Apparently the slot runs in PCMCIA 16-bit mode and not in the faster Cardbus 32-bit mode...
This is a bit funny seeing that the controller is on the CF card... :(
So, even though CF is the fastest type of card available, there are other things you have to look at...

I can confirm what you've faced. The built-in CF interface is somewhat sneaky. I can deal with it and the pictures transfered to my X30.
