I guess it all depends on the price and the condition of the machine.
X32 are basically X31 with differences just in the cpus... someone sometimes says it's a little hot (X31), but personally I've never felt it.
Remember that you'll need to add an external usb dvd or an ultrabase, and the ultrabase would be a better option since it would allow you to use 2 standard batteries at the same time (plus an ultrabay 2000 one, in case).

mmmmmmm, I've never paid a lot of attention, actually (and I'm not using NHC to monitor temperatures).
But I would like to point out that the fan is not so noisy, not at all.
Bottom line, I've never been disturbed by the sound (the desktops I've here are all way more noisy)
EDIT
An X31/32 should be near silent compared to a T43 (the one you have in the sign), the way I've read around...

I don't know how much the X32 you're looking at is, but you'll most likely need to upgrade the 4200rpm HDD and the 256MB RAM, which will cost an additional $100 or so. An X60 would have better specs, most likely have more warranty remaining, be in better cosmetic condition, weigh a little less, and cost not much more money. So why not just get an X60?

From looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it looks like the processor is above the RAM cover on the opposite side of the motherboard. As you can imagine, the CPU generates a large amount of heat. I currently use the TP fan utility to make the fan startup at a certain temperature. That helps a little bit, but the machine still gets warm to the touch on its underside.
