Piano Black X20 Project... : I need some advice

#1 Post by WarMachine » Sun Sep 02, 2007 1:02 am

Hello,

I would like, if it isn't too expensive, to make my X20 a very limited Piano Black Edition, some sort of S3x brother. :o

As I'm not even able to draw a cube with my own hands, I won't do that myself.

So, I went to talk with my car dealer yesterday, to ask if it was possible to do the modification.

I didn't meet the man I use to see, but another told me it probably will be possible.

Sounds nice, huh ? :D

But I've some questions...

Some paints can, it seems, cause electrical interferences. This particularity is used , for example, on the planes like the F117.

So, if my car dealer uses his own car paint, is there any risk for my Thinkpad ?

Do you think my car dealer will be able to transform my vanilla X20 in a S3x clone ?

Thx for your answers.

If you're asking for expertise here on painting Thinkpads, it ain't gonna happen :). I only saw one painted Lid here (not an entire machine), and evidently that member isn't talking. There is a company that sells painted 'Pads'. Ask them ...

I like the way the 9 cell looks on this one ....:)

Aaaaaah, yesssssssss, an answer !!! :P

In fact, I will, now, only paint the lid.

I know colorware, and I forgot I could ask them for further informations.

I will ask ASAP.

I don't want to have an orange or other color lid. I want it black, piano black, like an S30.

I think it will be pretty nice.

I would understand the fact that I have no answer, if I'd ask how to paint my Thinkpad like a rainbow ! :D

Thx ! :)

I painted my case back in the day with auto paint, it turned out pretty nice...

It was a pretty big process, sand down to bare metal, sand down to smooth surface on bare metal, spray primer, spray primer, spray colour ( two or three coats), spray clear coat...

I should have layered on more clear coat, it turned out to chip easily after a year or so.. but looked real good after it was finished.

as for painting your x20, isn't the top some kind of plastic? not sure how well standard primer would stick to that.
i suppose there is plastic primer too, maybe get him to try out one of the bottom panels just in case the paint wont adhere ....

I has going to go the easy way and get some stickers

Here's a quick alternate solution to the piano black.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Only problem is you'll miss your IBM thinkpad logo and grow to hate the "Designed by ideastyle" logo
