External WIFI Antenna on a X22 Pics

#1 Post by TomKroscavage » Sun Sep 02, 2007 9:33 pm

I used a MMCX pigtail. I also added an internal antenna to use at home. Reception is out of the ball park.

I believe Yahoo Photos does not allow direct URL access to your pictures. You can try any number of image hosting sites (imageshack, photobucket, etc.)

If you don't mind, I'm posting mine setup as well.

I used a U.FL to male RP-SMA adapter about 6" long, drilled a hole in the back of the modem port, as my X22's wireless pci card doesn't have a modem in it, ran the pigtail through, and secured it in the modem port with lots of super glue, and is extremely strong.

The antenna is for a random linksys router I believe it's a 5 or 7 db, and screws on when I need it. Usually gets me at least 1 extra bar, or another 25 feet outside the house compared to the internal one that is set under the keyboard.
If I leave it screwed in and turn it parallel to it the base, it's protrudes less than the ac adapter blug.

If Lenovo techs are reading this:

Again, PLEASE just add rp-sma jacks already to all TP lines. Don't make us void warranties. This is way overdue.

I was sent out of town, and my WIFI worked great. I used the external antenna a lot. Has anyone out there made any new WIFI range discoveries? better antenna? better card?

DD-WRT, Linksys WIFI router, higher gain antennas, router in client mode with a cat5 cable connected to the lan port on the computer.
I've had great success the last few years piggy backing on whatever WIFI I could find, but my new Sprint EVDO PCI card is going to be here this week. YAY!
When I'm working the router serves a totally different purpose, but back in my hotel room I've used it to gain some range plenty of times.

I have a WRT54G running open-WRT. I never could get that client mode working. Using Linux I'm lost. Does the dd-Wrt have a simpler interface?

I thinking that the WRT will not help me much because any antenna I could put on it I could put on my laptop. I live in S.E. Alaska we get 200" of rain a year. So putting a router outside will not work.
