Is it possible for my X31 not to have bluetooth?

#1 Post by atnt » Mon Sep 10, 2007 12:59 am

Hello everyone!

I just joined your forum because I have a problem with the Thinkpad X31 I just bought last week: I can't seem to find any led or button or any other indication that my notebook might be equipped with a bluetooth device, although the vendor site said it would.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, and I tried updating every driver... nothing happened. When I press Fn+F5 I get an option to turn on/off the Wi-Fi antenna.

I installed the bluetooth driver from the IBM support page, and the installation went ok, but I still can't see any Bluetooth device under device manager (nor can I see any unknown device), and when I try to use the bluetooth software I get an error message "No bluetooth device detected" ...

So my question is: Are there any X31s shipped without bluetooth, and if I got one of them, what can I do about it?

Thank you,
aTnT

Not all X31s come with Bluetooth.
I suggest you contact the vendor site and see what they say.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Yes, there were several X31 systems that did not ship with Bluetooth. You can plug in the seven character type number from the bottom of your system into the "product number" box in this page:

Support & downloads

and see how the system was configured when it left the factory.

I think I just found out I do not have BT on my x41 T... sigh

on another strange note - I definitely have my sound installed - windows recognizes that sound is being played - but I can hear nothing - not from the speaker nor the microphone jack

Double sigh...

Yes many X31's do not have bluetooth. I bought an inexpensive bluetooth USB adapter for mine. Works fine.

I bought an X31 without Bluetooth, and a friend had the same model. I bought a bluetooth daughter card for each (it just replaces the modem - all you need is an antenna for the card).

I bought one for my friend's X31 a year and a half ago for $20 shipped.

The second one for my X31 cost $8 shipped.

Anyway, if the seller told you that it DOES include bluetooth, first try Fn-F5, then if that doesn't work...
-Right-click "My Computer"
-Select "Properties"
-Go to the "Hardware" tab
-Select "Device Manager"
then under "Modems" or "Networking" you should see something referring to bluetooth.

I'd also try, downloading the bluetooth driver again off of Lenovo.ca

GL and let me know how it works out

yes, the 9mm SSD fits in the X220

There are several at least 2 ways to mute sound on the Lenovo's ... one is through the Windows application, but also check your machine for a mute button (there will likely be volume up and down buttons as well). These are separate from the Windows control, and override Windows.
