Reinstall Recovery Partition on X30 w/out Recovery Disks

#1 Post by emoticonartist » Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:57 am

I recently replaced my hard drive (last one had died) and reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2 via an OEM installation disk. In doing so I just used the 40GB whole to put the entire OS. I was able to activate WXPProSP2 successfully and get all the updates that I needed.

I was wondering how to reinstall/create the R&R partition w/out the X30 IBM Recovery CD as I bought my X30 second hand? Are the disks required to make the R&R partition?

Secondly, anyone know how to update XP's product key to match the original COA that came w/ the X30? Funny thing is that the COA states "Windows XP Pro SP1, IBM (not OEM, natch)" - so I'm not sure if the COA would be valid anymore? I suppose that if did use the Recovery disk, I would have to reinstall Windows XP SP1, use the COA on the X30, then re-update to SP2?

Without the disks you won't be able to.

Please refer to this thread.

Product Recovery disks installs everything including the OS, drivers, softwares, utilities tools etc. You can refer to this thread to get an idea what's included on those disks.

With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
