USB boot on X23

#1 Post by schiesz » Wed Oct 24, 2007 10:39 pm

I cannot get my X23 to boot to a USB thumb drive. I have no problems with this same device on a T42, and the USB is enabled on the X23. Any ideas what I can try?

Is it fair to assume you have already enabled USB boot options in the BIOS, and that you are setting the boot priority to the USB drive prior to the HD?

Stupid questions, I know, but they need to be asked.

I was never able to get my X23 to boot from USB flash drive, and honestly I don't think it can be done unless you can somehow fool the BIOS into thinking the drive is a USB floppy.

If you need to install software, as a general rule your best bet is to boot from a USB floppy drive that contains the appropriate driver for a USB CD-ROM of your choosing. When the floppy finishes loading, you can access the installation files on the CD-ROM drive.

Yes it is enabled in BIOS and has priority. I need to try my Cruzer Micro, since it is initially seen as a USB CD drive. Maybe that will work.

I was hoping to run DSL ([censored] small linux) from my little 128mb usb drive like I do on my T42, but so far its not happening.

Does anyone know if it will let me boot to a CF card?

Do you have the latest BIOS? My X31 wouldn't boot from USB until I updated. I had a really old version apparently.
