Keyboard for X40
Keyboard for X40
I've been trying for a while to find the FRU number for a norwegian keyboard for my X40...
Could anyone here help me, as the people at IBM norway wasn't very helpful. As I understand it there are two types of keyboards, which is better, and is it available in the norwegian version?
IBM gave me the number for one of their retailers in Norway, but they didn't know the part number either......
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't comment on that. I've only heard of such serious quality problems with different keyboards (Thai vs. Chinese) with regard to the T4* series, not the X40.WildEye wrote:Ok... next stupid question, which I asked in the first post, which is the "good" one? Saw somewhere something about malaysian vs chinese?

NMB appears to produce in Thailand, Chicony in China, yet I'm not 100% sure. But please notice that the (apparantly bad) Chinese keyboards in the T4* series were made by ALPS (also well-known for the worst touchpads around), and not Chicony.NMB = ? and Chicony = ?

Btw, why don't you simply look up the FRU of your existing keyboard...WildEye wrote:Ok... next stupid question, which I asked in the first post, which is the "good" one?

...determine with the keyboard FRU parts list I posted above who made it and order a Norwegian replacement from exactly the same manufacturer?
Thanks. Thats the info i was looking for. I didn't know it was a T model only problem, i assumed that it was a problem for all thinkpads...NMB appears to produce in Thailand, Chicony in China, yet I'm not 100% sure. The Chicony 93P4630 (made in China) has a much better feel. It has a click to it when the key is pressed and released.
The NMB keyboard (91P8319) feels very soft, doesn't have any audible click, and you just don't get feedback from your typing. My X41 came new with the Chicony keyboard, but I had to get a replacement (for an unrelated reason) - and I wound up with the NMB.
I'm typing on the NMB right now, and am seriously considering calling IBM and asking them to send me a Chicony keyboard.
