I've had my X31 for a few years, using Windows XP's built-in software to control my wi-fi. That's smooth, except it has the glitchiness recorded elsewhere: the wireless connection drops when I try to download a big file or otherwise saturate my connection.
Finally that got to be too much of an annoyance, so I went to the Lenovo site and downloaded the latest driver for my Intel 2100 wireless card, as well as the latest Access Connections tool. Following advice on this forum, I first uninstalled my wireless driver, rebooted, then installed the new driver, rebooted, then installed Access Connections and rebooted again.
Access Connections insists that my wireless radio is turned off, and telling it to turn it on does nothing at all. It keeps trying to connect and getting nowhere. I've disabled the Wireless Zero Configuration service and done everything else I can think of.
When I uninstall AC and use the Windows tool instead, that works smoothly.
Any tips for getting a solid connection, using one tool or the other?
Windows wireless fine, Access Connections no go
I had the same problem as you concerning disconnects with large files. I also did the same method that you have currently done (disable WZC and install AC). While AC did work fine for me it did not fix the problem of the disconnects.
I believe that the stock Intel card is just terrible and purchasing an Atheros or an other reliable card would prove beneficial. I have had zero problems with my Atheros a/b/g card if that is any comfort. Not to mention that being able to use wireless g is much more appeasing with large file transfers/downloads. Hope this helps.

Make sure you have the ACPI Power Management driver (Lenovo version) installed, and the Hotkey driver. If it still is not working, you might want to try the Backlevel version of Access Connections. Uninstall your existing version of Access Connections and your wireless driver, then download and install the IBM Access Connections + wireless LAN driver pack. Be sure and follow the installation instructions. There is also a newer version (3.81) linked to under the Notes section of that page, if you would rather try that version.
