X20 Ubuntu + Used Price

#1 Post by camdecoster » Tue Nov 06, 2007 10:10 pm

I have two questions:

Will Ubuntu (or another Linux distro) install and run well on an X20?
How much is reasonable to pay for a used X20?

I am looking at one that is for sale at $190 with the following specifications:

Pentium 3 600MHz with Speed Step Technology
196M RAM
20G Hard Drive
PCMCIA port with 802.11b card installed
2 USB ports
Ethernet port
Modem port

One last question: can I install a wireless mini PCI card in an X20?

I'd recommend that you find out the screen resolution. X20s came with both 800*600 and 1024*768.

Yes, but
a) you'll lose the internal wired network interface as well as the modem
b) you'll have to either disassemble the LCD and do some trial-and-error for best positioning of the antennas, or leave the antenna under the keyboard and get somewhat weaker reception.

And that's WAY too much money for an X20...
