X31 to X30 downgrade?

#1 Post by icebag » Thu Nov 08, 2007 3:32 am

I have an X31 that won't boot. Occasionally it will bleep at me when I power it on, but more often than not nothing happens at all. The keyboard, carcase and screen are all in good condition.

I have just bought an X30 mobo off eBay (for 99 UK pence!) that is said to boot OK.

Can I fit the X30 board in X31? If so, what do I lose by downgrading? (The only thing I am aware of is that the X30 had USB1 but the X31 had USB2.)

Not without some work. The placement of one of USB ports, the audio jacks, and the fan grille is different on the X30. You'd have to mod your X31 casing.

I posted a while ago asking if a X31 motherboard will fit into my X30 laptop.
The replys i got all said it wont fit.The USB placement is diffrent. You may have to do some cutting of the base i think.

So i would think the same thing for putting a X30 motherboard into a X31.

Let us all know if you try to do it and what problems you come up with.

Thank you for that information. I think I will look for X30 base plastics going cheap.

I will report back on problems or successes.

would you like to give some more info on your problem? I guess it has somthing to do with the power supply. your battery is empty, and the charger is broken. In this case you may get bleeps when you power it on. but immediatly goes off because of the low battery. But when you power on, but it stays on (with the lights work and all) you hear the HDD running but nothing more, than you have to think of the mobo.
