x31 2672 + installing bluetooth

I'm running xp pro, SP3, 2gb ram, 160 gb HDD (WD 5400 rpm and does it blister the thighs) on a x31 but the InfraRed is kaput and it doesn't ship with bluetooth. I believe I can buy a bluetooth internal card that replaces the modem card but I can't find any instructions or what particular card I should buy. Any steers?

No IrDa is a pain but it seems there is an xp conflict. Is there anything I can do about this when (presuming I locate bluetooth fitting instructions) I instal bluetooth even if it involves buying some new kit?

And while I am at it is there anything else worth upgrading, which does cost an arm and a leg or require PhD in programming?

Honestly, unless you're bored to the max, you might be better off just plopping a BT dongle in there...adding antenna for BT in an X31 which is a very compact machine to begin with isn't likely to be joyful...

What's the model of your X31, by the way? That will help people help you locate the correct stuff and instructions...

On another note, given your laptop's current specs, I don't see that there's much to upgrade...

BMDC200 (or BDMC200, I forget how it's spelled). eBay it - I bought mine for $8 shipped, but I have incredible luck and have a nose for deals.

Then all you need is an antenna that you tuck under the palmrest and the drivers from Lenovo.com.

My X1 is a 2672 - 0G7. I've crawled all over Lenovo for drivers (on which it says I am up-to-date) and instructions for bluetooth but no joy. The IrDa got me buggy and , I admit, I am being pernickity but there is an elegance and purity about the design that one feels obliged to match. I want it all to work even if I don't use it.

For a factory b/t install, you need the aforementioned BMDC200 card (part# 91P7315), a hingecap/antenna, and a clearplate. If you buy the BMDC200 card from select dealers they sometimes include the clearplate.

Sorry, the model number is 2672 QG7 [the Q is barely distinguishable.

I've got a 2672-C2G that works just great with the bluetooth card and a regular WiFi antenna. I bought the "clear plate" off of the eBay seller that's listed in the link, and they're good quality.

Although the BT/modem combo can be much cheaper in the US, postage is prohibitive. There is zilch in the UK. In the end I got a deal from China - hellowifi.cn - for about £30 or $60. I am learning pdigin Mandarin, which helped. Olympics next year with the X31, BTW.

Anyone want some learn-Mandarin MP3s, email me and I'll send you them to you in dribs and drabs or I could put them up on our ftp.
