For owners of an X31...

#1 Post by clayton.bigsby » Sat Nov 17, 2007 5:13 pm

I want to get an idea from current owners of the X31 to see if it is the upgrade that I am looking for. I am specifically interest in the models with the 1.3GHz and 1.4GHz processor. It's related to my previous post.

May I ask anyone with an X31 to visit the sites of NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX, and try to watch their online streaming TV shows. Please share your experiences along with the speed of your processor. Are the online videos choppy on your machine? If not, how about when trying to view it full screen?

The sites that are hardest on my T21 are FOX, NBC, and CBS in that order. Thanks.

On the X31 machine in my sig I just watched full length episodes of Heroes on NBC and Shark on CBS, both were flawless. I am running Linux at the moment, but XP would be fine I am sure. These machines have Pentium M CPU's and decent ATI GPU's. As long as you have enough RAM and a decent broadband connection, videos are not going to be an issue. X31's are great machines, but they do run a bit warm. The CPU was hitting 84*c while watching those same videos. No that that's a huge issue, but it's something to be aware of. These 12" Thinkpads have a tiny chassis and cooling is sub-optimal. There's probably a weeks worth of debate about whether or not that fact is a concern as it relates to the longevity of the machine. If I had the money I'd get an X61 (better) or X61s (best) without hesitation. I hope this help you make a decision :).

I've an X31 with a 1.4ghz cpu... I would have loved to do the check for you, but apparently all the sites I've tried (abc, nbc, etc) have limited the video feeds only to us territory. :(

I tried NBC as FOX wanted to install their movie player. Plays great for me from what I saw. This is on a X31 with a 1.6ghz CPU, 768MB ram with an episode of Heroes playing.
