USB power connector on X40

#1 Post by rogerdean » Sun Nov 18, 2007 11:12 am

Hello folks

On my x40 I have what looks like a small USB socket on the left side on the machine, right under the regular USB port. I believe this is a power only socket, which would allow me to use my USB DVD drive more easily.

So I need to find the correct cable for this - what is this socket called? Where can I find the cables I need? Would be great if I was able to use this...

Cheers
Roger

USB 2.0 connector (top) and the USB power connector (bottom).

Left side view - ThinkPad X40, X41.

can't find one for sale on the web - if anyone is retiring their x40/41 and doesn't need the cable any more, do let me know. will post on the marketplace section too.

cheers

Keep in mind, I believe the power port passes through the 16v from the wall charger/battery.

so does anyone out there actually use this port? or was it a very clever ibm thing that never did much?

I believe the only accessory you can use is the actual IBM branded external cd/dvd drive. Every other external drive I have seen is either 5v or 12v.
