X32 7200rpm Hard Drive and Restore Discs

#1 Post by proaudioguy » Wed Nov 21, 2007 7:31 pm

I need original restore discs for my X32. These can be copies. I have original A31 Win2000, and XPP discs, and X60 Tablet XP and Vista discs, I can COPY and trade. The company I bought the computer form had it running and it says USER instead of MY NAME. As you may know this cannot be changed throughout windows.

Now to get back on topic. I am trying to find a 200Gig hard drive and can only find SATA. I'd like the largest 7200 RPM Seagate drive I can fit. Does anyone know what model that will be?

Also are there any heat issues with going from the 4200 to the 7200 in the X32?

Maybe another option would be to somehow get my A31 HD working in the X32 with th exhisting install. It already has all the necessary software installed, etc. It would not ever have to be put back into the A31, since my wife is taking that over (now that I have all new plastics and built in WIFI). As of now it starts to boot, then goes BSOD, due to the massive hardware differences.

The largest 7200 rpm PATA 2.5" HDD from Seagate is 100 GB: ST910021A. Hitachi does not exceed 100 GB as well. (HTS721060G9AT00 and HTE721010G9AT00)

At 5400 rpm you can get 250 GB from WD: WD2500BEVE. Seagate and Samsung stop at 160 GB.

Is there anything over 100 GB and faster than 5400 rpm? Yes there is: Super Talent lists a 128 GB SSD. Not sure about 256 GB from any manufacturer being released yet.

You can choose between less capacity, a slower disk or tons of $.
X60t; 1.2 GHz ULV; XGA; 4 GB; 32 GB SSD; 16 GB SDHC; abg; XP; X6

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I already have that 100Gig Seagate drive. I guess I need to clone it, then clone the 4200 over to it.

Just an FYI on the X32.

I got a couple blue screens. My hard drive (4200 60GB) was clicking annoyingly and when I would move the computer it sounded like the heads were hitting the plates. I think there might be some play there. I called IBM and they sent a new Hitachi 5400 60GB. I stuck that in the A31 and put the 7200 100GB I had in the A31 in the X32, used the recovery discs, and no more problems. This unit is not as silent as my X60 Tablet or A31. The fan kicks up now and then, but I can definitely live with it. Now my wife has the A31 (boo hoo). The T20 she was using is for sale. It just wasn't cutting it (too slow) when she had 18 mozilla windows, Outlook, and 2-3 mortgage programs open at once. Other than that XP Pro seems to run fine on it. Ironically, my son's GF has a brand new toshiba with vista home and 512mb ram and it feels slower than the T20!

So how HOT is the CPU on the X32 supposed to run? It's never cooler than 55C and usually in the 60s. Should I crack it open and stick some AS on it?

Ah thanks, but it's much more complicated than that.
It has more to do with user accounts, My docs folders, etc. The stuff in the Docs and settings folders. It involves registry keys, etc. It was just a lot easier to restore the HD, since it was still new, and since I was changing the HD anyway. That tool looks great though.
