X41 Tablets - more prone to XP stop alerts than normal?

#1 Post by michaelm » Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:31 pm

Hi all,

Have just had the misfortune to have one machine present me with the XP blue screen of death and now, another! Is this just bad luck or a sign that all is not well with these units?

Luckily I had a recent backup to an external USB drive and simply reinstalled from there.

What caused it? I believe it was the software update that I ran from the IBM/Lenovo pdate facility. This added 6 or so files to the machine, rebooted, then the blue screen.

Is there a more reliable way to update these machines? I am starting to find this a bit tiresome (have 4 X41's to look after!).

Thanks

Mike

BSOD are caused by one of two things:

1 - Hardware failure - such as a bad hard drive or ram

2 - Software issue - corrupted os files

Reloading your OS may help - but if it is the first cause - you may need to replace some hardware.
