new battery not charged to 100% - should i be worried?

#1 Post by jealouse » Sun Nov 14, 2004 6:24 pm

i got a new battery. it's not exactly the original - it's one of those

cheapo "compatible" battery. btw, i have X24.

it works fine. it seems to last over 3 hours now which is what i expected.

but it never gets fully charged to 100% - you know how TP goes

into 'blinking mode' when the charging is near completion and when it's

fully charged, the blinking stops and the light turns to yellow. the problem

i have with the new battery is that it keeps blinking - even after like 12

hours of charging! i plug it off and its showing 99% or sometimes 98% of

the battery...

is it something i should be worried? the charge count is 3 since i got it

like two days ago. i dont know if being so new got something to do

with this phenomenon...

another question. i noticed that when its 100%...well 98% charged, the

output voltage from battery maximizer is like over 11 volts...but when the

battery is nearly drained, the voltage drops to something like 10.3 volts...

i think its normal voltage is 10.8 volts... is this normal? or is it something i

should be worried as well?

thanx for your comment in advance

there's no telling how a generic battery will react in your system. as long as you're getting the time you want out of it, and the voltage isn't spiking too much (find a program that can monitor this and display it on your desktop) i wouldn't worry about it.

on the first charge of a battery, you're supposed to give it a much longer time, usually overnight. before you do that, you should let it run down (some companies keep a little charge for storage), but not to 0.

just my thoughts; the exploding cell phones you hear about in the news are usually the result of cheap aftermarket batteries. inexpensive is okay, but cheap would definitely worry me.
