HDTV Tuner for X31?
HDTV Tuner for X31?
Greetings.
Has anyone happily installed an ATSC tuner device on their 2672-type X31, either USB or PCMCIA?
I don't need the "HD" capability, just the "D" for local stations, which don't do well in analog on rabbit ears.

It looks as if you are correct. It would appear every ATSC tuner device assumes Directx 9.faberryman wrote:I hope I am mistaken, but I don't think that the X31 will do DirectX 9 which is a requirement for the Hauppage USB ATSC tuner and I assume the others as well.
Bummer.
I was hoping to do more with less, but it would appear we'll be buying an ATSC LCD TV, probably the Insignia 19" at Best Buy when it goes on sale again.

What about asking here ?
Seems that Hauppauge people are actually answering to questions in that forum.
The x31 can install up to directx 9.0c , the real question is if the tv cards need or not the features of newer gpus compared to the integrated one.
Mainly those features are game related...

I have a USB 2.0 HDTV tuner made by Artec. My P4 2.2 machine with the Radeon 7500 GPU (Compaq N800c) doesn't have enough video capability to run it. I get like 2 frames per minute or something, albeit high quality frames.... On a desktop machine with 128mb video card (Radeon 9700) it worked fine. Based on this, I think the biggest hurdle may be the GPU.

I have the X31 and the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950. No problems. The software that comes with the WinTV isn't the best (actually the newer version on the hauppauge website is better), but there are some options such as www.watchhdtv.net . It is a USB 2.0 device and works and looks quite well. I wrote this reply quickly so please ask if you have any specific question, I will try to answer.
