Bright spots on X40 LCD
Bright spots on X40 LCD
Hey guys, just curious if anyone else has this. It's not quite a dead pixel... but I have regions some an inch in diameter and a few are small clumps of pixels that are brighter then the rest of the sceen. They display the correct colors, just brighter. I'm pretty sure it's the LCD's problem as these regions are always in the same spots and it occurs in both Windows XP and Linux(Fedora Core 3). Any idea how I should approach this? Thanks for any help.
FS: New SEALED Extended Battery for X40
I'm finally on my Winter break and don't need my X40 for school work for a while, so I decided to give IBM a call about the problem. They say ok, send it in. I did so, and now I get a call about charging me $800+ to fix it?! They say the white spots are caused by pressure on the screen. But the white spots (brighter regions) I have range from a clump of ~10 pixels to an inch in diameter and they are in random locations. How could I have caused such damage? Specially since I'm a broke college student and bought this with my own money, I'm treating this thing like a 1 month old baby! So I decide to dispute the charges. Hope everything goes well. If anyone has any tips/experience ... I dunno, dealing with this? Any help is appreciated.

How did this turn out? Will IBM replace screens that develop white spots? Any other experiences?

same here, since i bought it, there were some brighter areas which within 2 months they really started bothering me. i told the whole story to ibm and in 2 days i got a perfect no dead pixel screen, that was about 2 years ago, and now its still spotless.
i recommend to escalate the issue.
and in the worst case you're better off ebay for lcds

Mine is in for service now - it had about eight white spots. I was told it would be replaced under warranty. No hassles so far. I'll report back when it returns.
Thanks for the advice.

I received my X40 back today with a new LCD. Just perfect, clear and bright. No spots or dead pixels and the bezel was installed perfectly.
No charge.
