How Common is it to Have Dead Pixel(s)?

#1 Post by Mr.Marui » Fri Dec 21, 2007 10:23 am

Of the two Thinkpad X31's I bought off corporate lease from Ebay, both have 1 dead black pixel each respectively.

One of them is located near the middle of the screen.

On the other computer, it's located near the right hand side.

I've tried those "dead pixel" software fixers for hours and it's still dead. Apparantly, those software fixes only work for "stuck" pixels that are stuck in either RGB, not completely off as in my case.

I'm just curious to know how often this happens for other people... and if it bothers you at all ... or if you even notice it.

Thanks

I have two ThinkPads. Both of them have one dead subpixel. First have red one pixel on white background (IPS panel), second one has green one on dark background (TN crap panel).

Dead pixels have never bothered me. The super-low 1024x768 resolution of the X31 screen would bother me infinitely more!

Seconded. The resolution is really horrible.

If any of my ThinkPads have dead or stuck pixels, I've never noticed. I have a cheap 17" LCD monitor that I use as a second screen for work, though, that has a number of stuck and dead pixels. I only notice them if the background is all white or black. Once I start working, I never see them.

I've had the same T20 as my "assigned" laptop at work for about 7 years now, and one dead pixel has shown up about three years ago. Stopped bothering me after two days...

Now I have a routine of looking for it first every time I turn the machine on.

Ah ic, thanks guys, it seems as though I'm not alone on this journey

And is it wrong of me to assume that as any LCD ages with use and time, dead pixels can show up out of seemingly nowhere?

Not to say that it can never happen, but dead pixels are very unlikely to suddenly appear, as they are caused almost exclusively during the manufacturing process.

P.S. And would people stop [censored] about the XGA resolution? What in the world was the connection between it and this thread?

Pianowizard, if we were on Gamewinners forums now, I'd accuse you of "trolling".
