X24 battery woes

#1 Post by j-dawg » Sat Dec 22, 2007 6:51 pm

My X24 is suddenly unable to run off its battery. This is a problem that's been getting progressively worse, in abrupt but distantly-spaced deteriorations of condition.

First, some time this summer, I noticed that my computer would sometimes go into half-standby if I unplugged it while I put it to sleep. The standby light would come on but the power light above the keyboard would remain active. The computer made no noise but when I put it in my bag it would come out hot an hour later, as though it had been running. It would not come out of this mode; I had to take out the battery and replace it to do anything.

A few months later, my battery life took a sharp drop. It used to run for 2.5-3 hours; suddenly, the battery would give projections of 50-70 minutes off a full charge, but the power would drop abruptly from 15% to 5% and die after forty minutes of use.

Finally, just yesterday, my battery stopped working altogether. The power icon in the tray shows that the computer is "running on AC power," but it also shows that the battery is present and at 64% charge. Despite this, unplugging the computer results in it turning off.

Before I invest in a new battery, I want to know what's really happening here. Is it just the battery that's the problem, or is something else here going wrong?

I don't believe that there's enough information to declare one way or the other whether or not your battery has simply just reached the end of its life. From your description of how the battery is reporting its charge state, I would have to say you just need a new battery. However, there could still be something wrong with the charging circuit in your X24 motherboard. If possible, I would try charging the battery in another system or borrowing another battery to use in yours.

Like Ray says, unfortunately, it is difficult to diagnose the actual cause of the problem without further testing or information.

I would tend to think it is more likely that your battery is just dead, but that the charging circuit on your X24 is fine. I am writing this post on a T23 that has the same issue as your X24. The battery gradually started losing capacity, and one good day it just shut down when I unplugged it from the wall to take it somewhere else. Right now my battery shows a capacity of 86%, up from 74% a few minutes ago. However, if I unplug the computer it shuts down. I will test the theory that this is exclusively a battery issue by plugging a battery from another T23 and seeing how it goes. I'll follow up with more information.

My x24 has exact the same problem as you mention above.
So I decide to buy a new battery and I expect to get it in 1 week
from now. I will let you know whatever the result come up after test with new battery.

Anyway, I wonder whether do you have any problem with your unit
run "too'' hot as people comment on this unit, x24?

Happy holidays to you all.

In general, X24 runs hotter than X22. I can't comment on X23 because I've never owned one.

Still, it's a lot cooler than X31..........

X24 battery woes

#7 Post by Paul88 » Fri Jan 04, 2008 7:57 pm

Sorry, it's been a while to get back on this. I just got a new battery
and want to let you know, it's perfectly fixed the problem.
The new battery hold around 2 hours after 8 hours charged.
Hope this help. ^_^
