Looking for an X4x...
Im trying to decide on a X4x model for travelling use. The only issue is which one to get?
Im deciding between the X40, X41 laptops and the X41 tablet.
I need atleast 1.5ghz with abg wireless, 60 gig and XP Pro. With my other thread its already been decided that the X4x only comes in one resolution.
Im considering the X40 because its pretty cost efficient now but im not seeing many x40 1.5 Ghz.
The X41 is slightly updated from the X41 and last model before the X6x models and only comes in 1.5/1.6 Dothan so searching for that shouldnt be a problem and it also had a finger print reader which is something im looking for. But its pretty much the same as the X40 if im not mistaken. I was also reading that its slightly lighter than the X40.
I have never had a tablet PC, but im still considering the X41 tablet for something new but its slightly more expensive. So I dont know if its worth it the extra price for a swiveling screen. To those who have had the X41 tablet is there an advantage over the laptop?

Two advantages of the Tablet that I can think of:
1) Tablet functionality can come handy once in a while even for a user who does not need it on a regular basis
2) High quality wide viewing angle FFS(IPS) screen in comparison to regular TN screens on the non-Tablet X4x.
Disadvantages:
1) More expensive
2) Heavier
3) Despite the screen being of high quality, the digitizer layer makes it slightly less bright and sharp.

With 4-cell batteries, they weigh 2.8 versus 3.6 pounds.ThinkPad wrote:Is the weight difference between the tablet and non-tablet that significant?

- IIRC, X40 also has models with the fingerprint reader option.
- The X4x Tablet, is both physically heavier and larger than the non-Tablet version. The X4x Tablet with 8-cell battery makes it more of a "square"-shape than the usual "rectangular"-shape of most laptops. Which makes finding a bag or sleeve for it probably a more effort-taking exercise.
- The weight difference can be significant. Consider your usage pattern - Do you need to lug it around all day long? Or travel will mostly be done via vehicle? Or only move within the same house?
- Go to store and have a try using Tablet PC. You may also check out the below videos for a brief introduction:
