Problem with Thinkpad x23/Windows 2000-driver conflict?

#1 Post by Killer_B » Wed Dec 26, 2007 4:18 pm

I have a used Thinkpad x23, that I had needed to replace the hard drive on. I had attempted to start fresh with a new install of Windows 2000, and it appears to work all right, until I attempt to install my wireless card...(Netgear WAG511, has a Athereos chipset) Then upon attempting to log in, I notice a VERY long delay on the logon/splash screen, it pauses for perhaps a minute or so.

I'm not sure if the Thinkpad just isn't liking the card itself, (regardless of the driver version used) or if perhaps there might be a driver/hardware conflict. I have tested using Ubuntu linux on it, and it works quite nicely.

The only thing that I seem to notice, is that perhaps there could be some sort of conflict with the audio drivers, as much of the slowness upon getting into Windows appears to make the sound very choppy/abrupt when using the WiFi card. (used the drivers found on Lenovo's website, for the Cirrus Logic CS4299 Audio chipset) I know that Ubuntu appears to like using the Intel drivers for audio. Is this something I should be trying to use on the Windows side as well?

Much as Ubuntu is working nicely for me, I would like to try using Windows 2000 on it. Might anyone have some insight?

Thank you.

Do you have Access Connections installed?

At the point where I did have Win 2000 on it, I'd have to say very likely, no.
