Powered USB plug, anyone?

#1 Post by pgoelz » Fri Dec 28, 2007 10:10 pm

Help! For Christmas, I got a nice Plextor portable DVD burner that claims it is USB powered. Trouble is that it requires the power from TWO USB outlets. On the X41, that is awkward since there is one USB port on each side. To make matters worse, the two supplied cords are so short that the drive needs to be behind the laptop :(

I'd like to make up a single cord that uses the combined USB port and power socket on the left side of the X41 but I can't find a mating plug for the power outlet. All I find are posts from other people looking for one.

I found FRU #22P9215 on the Lenovo site..... looks like what I am looking for...... but no way to purchase one.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks,
Paul

No, I wish it were that simple. The X41 has a "powered USB" outlet on the left side. This consists of a regular four pin USB socket with a slightly smaller three pin socket directly underneath it that looks like a USB socket, just slightly narrower. It is apparently just power.

Yes, I CAN use two USB sockets and the supplied cords, but since the two sockets are on opposite sides of the X41 it makes it very messy / cumbersome. I'd like to be able to use one cord, with USB and power on each end.

I'm not sure about the voltage supplied by the PoweredUSB port on the X4-series ThinkPads.

Anyway, you may find more information from the below linked page, and the links in it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PoweredUSB

And you may find some 5V PoweredUSB cables from the below search result; alter the keywords accordingly for more results:
