Cosmetic problem on X40

#1 Post by pat » Sat Nov 20, 2004 1:02 pm

I just recentely noticed that the little piece next to the latch to open the laptop is bending up on one corner. I tried using super glue but now that's just become a massive mess and it still doesn't stay down.

Any advice?

I always wondered just what the heck that piece was for, aside from acting as a stop for the latch. Surely another way could have been devised?

Can't offer any advice other than perhaps contact them and ask to have it fixed? Although I suspect they would have done exactly what you have done.

It's a cover for the UltraConnect Antenna.
If it is loose or bending up you should send it in and they will replace the piece.
Now that you have gone and put super glue on it you might be out of luck.
But couldn't hurt to try.

so *that's* what it is.

I shoulda known it had to be function. Bless IBM, but they ain't one to put non-functional things on their laptops....

Heh. I always just pushed it back down after I bent it to get in in my sleeve. I was pretty successful for about a month before it just snapped off. Oh well.

Mine was bending from me putting it into my sleeve too. So I just switched the direction I placed the laptop into my sleeve. But I sent it into IBM for them to replace the part for me and they did so gladly =D

Well, I used nail polish remover to get the dried glue off and it came off successfully, but now the piece is broken off.

Should I call IBM and ask them to replace it?

Would this be considered tech support? Or should I talk to customer service?

Well it would be tech support
they will have to write up a ticket and then send you a box.
Unless you have a local service center near by that does IBM warranty.
