x30 wireless problems URGENT HELP please
I am about to give up on this as I have tried everything.
The machine is an x30 with a built in antenna (bevel on the side) and a IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II herafter HRW.
I have tried updating the HRW driver, removing it entirely and re-installing it. I´ve also removed/re-installed Access Connections.
And no matter what I do I can't find any networks when I search. Everything else seems to work fine, but it cant find any networks no matter if it is windows doing the searching or Access connections.
I have a router setup right next to it, which I can connect to with no problem on my other laptop (T60P). The router is setup with WEP protection and I've also tried with protection disabled, no luck either.
The last thing I did was try to set up an adhoc network, first on my other laptop T60P, when I searched on the T60P it found the adhoc, but when I searched on the X30 it didnt find it.
Then I tried setting up adhoc network on X30, which worked and for the first time the x30 found a network (the adhoc) but I couldnt see the network on the T60P. Furthermore the network said it had no signal, but connectivity was excellent.
Now this leads me to think that perhaps it is the antenna that is not working? Since the X30 could see its own adhoc network and had excellent connectivity but no signal. And also the fact that the adhoc network on the X30 wasn't visible to the T60P.
Now, is there anyone here who have any other ideas of what this might be?
And if not, is there any way to find out if it is specifically the antenna that is not working? Anyway to test it perhaps?
Any help is greatly appreciated as I am leaving tomorrow and have been trying to get this to work for the last 4 days.

I already tried removing the access connections as well (and testing without it just using windows (with Windows Zero Configuration enabled).DVormann wrote:Two suggestions:
- Try removing access connections. No reinstall. It is only useful under rare circumstances anyway.
- Try a different WLAN sniffer like netstumbler.
Will try netstumbler as well, thanks.
Please keep suggestions coming guys.

Put in another card. Those MiniPCI cards are known to die (mine did in a T30).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Antenna vs. Card
I had a situation that was close to this one on my X31. The Main lead was not fully connected. It looked fine, but I finally did my reconnect everything on a newly purchase used machine, and it started working.
If this does not work try a replacement card. You can get a B for as little as $8 + S&H on eBay. If you want to hold a spare B/G then you can get that for $40 or so.
The chances that it is your antenna is negligible. Unless you see a nick in the wires running up to the screen, the other wires are pretty well protected for the long-term. Do you think the LCD has ever been replaced? If so, you might find an issue there, but unlikely. Replace the card first.
I have seen the AUX and Main switched, but this didn't seem to have an effect. You could switch the leads and see if there is an effect, but again, I highly doubt you will. Remember the antenna is a mechanical system, so it won't wear out over time. The only issue is damage to the wire leads. No damage, no issue.
I would definitely remove Access Connections for the long-term. It only causes trouble. It was a cute idea, but there is something in their execution.
