X30 Video Graphics Drivers - Blue Screen!
X30 Video Graphics Drivers - Blue Screen!
Hi All,
I've searched and searched, but no-one seems to have the problem i have: I reinstalled my X30 and all is fine using the last IBM drivers from the website, but having purchased a wide screen external monitor, I noticed that the IBM drivers don't support wide screen resolutions - so I downloaded and installed the Intel 82830M drivers.
All seemed fine, but now the machine blue screens frequently - I have confirmed the intel driver is the issue, as uninstalling and going back to the IBM driver cures the problem.
So what now?!? I can't use this monitor?!? Are there any alternative drivers that can be used with this chipset? Has anyone else seen this issue? Any ideas how to diagnose the root of the problem?
I've tried powerstrip - this chipset doesn't appear to want to allow custom resolutions.
Any help much appreciated!
Cheers,
Martin

I don't own an X30 but I did some searching on Intel's site about the 830MP. Here's what I found, don't know if you've seen it;
Now what I don't know is if IBM implemented this feature in their driver.
Here's where I found it; http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/i ... 009501.htmDual-Pipe Panning is used in conjunction with Intel Dual Display Clone or Multi. To use Dual-Pipe Panning, first enable Intel Dual Display Clone or Multi, then set the cloned display devices to a larger resolution than one of the cloned displays supports and click Apply. The device that cannot support the full resolution will be panned.
Now what I don't know is if IBM implemented this feature in their driver.
R50/52, X20/21/23/24, T23/42/43, 240X, 570, 570E, 770X, 4 760's. + MAC's & SUN's
Hi Phool,
Thanks for that - but that page just talks about multi-screen options - my issue is that the Intel drivers cause blue screens on a very frequent basis.
What I really need is an alternative to the IBM drivers (which do not support widescreen resolutions) - that could be either another driver that just happens to work with that chipset, or possibly a slightly older Intel driver - anyone know where I can get those?
The BSOD's have a variety of messages by the way, so no help there...

I had a similar issue, I left the existing driver installed, the pm driver from Intel I believe, and proceeded with getting all available Windows updates. curiously that cured the bluescreens. But support for the wide resolutions is still flaky and video playback in widescreen is poor. Sadly, I think the x30 is just not up to widescreen...too old!
The X30 has a ati video chip right? If so why not use the omega drivers?mart9802 wrote:Hi Thanks for that - no joy though - I don't really want to let M$FT have free rein to install all updates, but I let all the hardware ones through...never mind, I'll have to get a 4:3 monitor I guess...
