X40 ultrabase issue, Driver? "FIXED IT"
X40 ultrabase issue, Driver? "FIXED IT"
Hi everyone. First post for me. I've looked pretty much everywhere for an answer and I can't even find much info on the problem I am having.
I have probably 150 thinkpads in my area with only 1 X40. We recently found out it was not up to standards and I was asked to bring it current and up to our standards at work.
When I installed XP I was able to find all the drivers with the exception of one. from the hardware ID I can see that it's a O2Micro device and that it's USB related. The exclamation is only showing up in Device manager when it is docked. I cannot seem to find a driver anywhere that removes the exclamation. I know it's Dock related and I have read a few threads here to no avail. I assume it's a hub/pass through for the dock but have no idea other than the HW ID how to search out a driver and it has been no help on google.
Does anyone have an insight into this? We use encryption here that is incompatible with recovery partitions so I don't have it to fall back on.
Appreciate any help.
Thanks.
by the way the HW ID is VID_0B97

Welcome to the Forum popeye44!
Have you intalled any IBM support software on your machine yet to coincide with your XP install?
Here is the main page for IBM software - X40. Link.
O2 Micro makes chips for CardBus and CardBus readers. Might be your SD slot..... I'd head over to the link I posted and try the Card Reader driver.
Hope this helps.

That ID does not exist on my X41 with ultrabase.popeye44 wrote:... the HW ID is VID_0B97
The only USB devices in ultrabay are standard ports and a hub. XP should be able to handle that without specific drivers.
- Try to disconnect everything including external mouse/keyboard. You might be able to locate that particular piece of hardware.
- Connect devices to all 4 USB ports (3 ultrabase, 1 right side) at the same time. Do all of them work?
- Put an SD card into the reader. It is PCI, not USB. On my last fresh install of XP the reader only got installed after inserting a card.
- Place something in cardbus to see if the slot works.

Well much to my embarassment.. I found the issue
I started randomly plugging and unplugging devices "keyboard mouse and pen drives" and it looks like the keyboard was screwing up the driver load.
Thanks everyone for your assistance.
It was good suggestions all around. "some of which I had done and some I had not"
I always feel a bit chagrined when I miss the obvious!

Re: X40 ultrabase issue, Driver?
I had a similar problem after a new load of XP on an X31.DVormann wrote:That ID does not exist on my X41 with ultrabase.popeye44 wrote:... the HW ID is VID_0B97

The CF reader did not work, and System Manager showed an unknown device, but no way would the system tell me what it was likely to be. I tried for a couple of days to sort it out, but without success. But I did remember having a similar problem with another device after an XP reinstall . I can't remember what that device was, but I do remember that doing yet another XP install, with the device connected cured the problem, and so it proved with the CF reader.
