Hi

wondering if this might be the cause of my problems, as I notice that the current drain is higher.

thanks

I don't think the current drain over a 4200rpm drive would be significant enough for you to complain about it. Look elsewhere. To answer your question, no this is not a known X31 problem.

This should not be an issue whatsoever. I've had 7200rpm drives in these machines and they worked fine.

5400 RPM HDs

I have 9 nieces and nephews to whom I have given 4 X24s and 5 X31s over the last 5 years for college. They all have 5400 rpm drives now and all are working just fine. I also have 3 X31s that have 5400 RPM drives and they have been fine for at least a year or two. In fact, many 5400 RPM drives today take less juice than the 4200s they are replacing.
Main X31 Vista Ult 1.6Mhz CPU 2Gb RAM 160Gb HD Artheros 54Mbit Wifi,
3-X31s XP, X24 XP, X22 XP, X21 XP, lots of parts for all of them.

thanks for the answers folks. I've just decided to buy a new x31 which I found on ebay with 3 years warranty supposedly "factory sealed". I guess that its a refurb unit.

my existing x31 has just dropped its second motherboard (while my x20 just keeps on keeping on) so I'm trying to eliminate anything that might be 'out of tolerance'
