x31 - is it dead, dammaged or a BIOS issue?

Folks

my x31 as of last night has become worse. The symptoms are interesting and maybe a little confusing.

Firstly, very little happens when you try to power on. Screen 'illuminates' though remains black. No IBM flash screen or text appears. There it remains

but

if you unplug the ac adaptor it begins to operate but soon locks up somewhere either loading windows or after its started.

I can boot and run memtest86 from its CD (but only with battery). Running this till battery failure (about 2.5 hours) yields no errors.

I can boot onto USB floppy and run the PC doctor for X3x downloaded from the site. It also shows no problems whatsoever.
all this changes when I operate the machine on AC (with our without the battery).

For example, if I start the machine booting off the floppy, and then plug the AC adaptor in it halts with an error:

OS/2 !! SYS01475
OS/2 !! SYS02627

I've tried to alter the BIOS, however using the floppy disk updates, I seem not to be able to go backwards. Further they refuse to load anything when I try to load the same version again, reporting that nothing needs to be done.

so, I wonder if perhaps there is a problem on the power supply side of the system board? I don't know if this is easily repairable or not.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I've since ordered another x31 from a seller on eBay, but if this can be 'revived' then well and good another computer will not be a bad thing (and perhaps I could ebay it?)

Hmmm...........I hate to be pessimistic, sounds like a motherboard issue, but I might be wrong.

I'd download a "live" Linux distro, put it on a flash drive and try running it to see how that flies. If it runs well, your trouble is likely to be software-related. If it doesn't...oh well...

Good luck.

Googling "os/2 sys01475" yields this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/160605

Can you double check that the other error line is: "SYS02027"?

edit: Changed link to original MS KB reference.
