X Series LCD manufactured by "DBU" ???

#1 Post by aamsel » Fri Nov 26, 2004 1:49 am

An X31 that just shipped to me is supposed to have a 12" LCD manufactured by a manufacturer named "DBU".

Anyone know why this is, and if it is better, or worse than the LG 12" LCD that is also listed for the X31 ???

It is FRU# 11P8225.

Thanks,

Andrew

The DBU panels on the 570/E series (long time ago) were outright terrible in comparison to the Hitachi panels that were also used on this series. Much worse viewing angles and contrast and a frightening reaction time. I heard some people complain about the allegedly bad screens on some X31's, perhaps they were also talking about the DBU models? Sorry, but I can't tell you anything definite here, otherwise I already would have answered you. Keep us informed about how you like the screen on your computer when you got it!

I have no idea.

But it looked like you said yours shipped with one and went on to ask why and questioned it's quality.

I guess I misunderstood you, sorry... :?

I am not questioning, just wanting to know.
I have received a couple of Thinkpads with really, really bad screens, and I am hoping for one that is decent. One reason I went with an X31 is that I heard that the 12" screens were brighter since they are smaller.

The 15" Flexview is too big for my needs, just so everyone will know.

I am glad that you don't know anything about the DBU panels.
Hopefully there is a chance that the X31 I receive will have a decent LCD.
Here's hoping.

Meanwhile, if anyone knows the "real scoop" on X31's with DBU panels, PLEASE POST info.

Otherwise, I will just chill and wait to see what I get.

Just so you will know, I am not wanting a great screen, just something average and decent, which I have yet to see.

Thanks!!

None the less, from the looks of it, even with a slight possibility that it's the DBU brand that's causing the complaints, I'd definitely insist on an exchange for just that reason. And if not, I'd get a full refund.

Good luck, hope you get what you're looking for.

I don't think I would want to do an exchange on a brand new unit.
Probably just order another one and return this one.
But that is precisely what I hope NOT to have to do.

Hope I am wrong.... But
As I understand it you ordered and returned an X40?
I can not imagine the screen on the X31 being any better. The screen on my X40 anyway, is way bright, I turn it down most of the time.
It is perfectly crisp and sharp with beautiful color and contrast. Also the viewing angles are way better on this screen than my previous T40.
I can't imagine anyone being disapointed with this screen. Unless I am the only one who got one like this, and I would find that hard to believe.

But everyone is different and I hope this X31 is the best you've seen and you truly enjoy it.

To the best of my knowledge, the screen on the X40 I returned MUST HAVE BEEN defective, or out of specs.
I truly hope that the X31 I get is great!
However, we have no idea who manufactured the screen on your X40 unless you do a parts lookup and tell me. My understanding is that the one I am getting does not ship on the X40 (based on looking at X40 and X31 parts lists on the IBM website).
Let me know if you pull up which LCD you have.

Thanks,

Hopefully by the time the new one comes, for your sake, they'll still honor the return...if it come to that.
