X31 dead subpixels vertical line (Pic)

#1 Post by chrisp » Mon Feb 04, 2008 10:40 am

Hi, after only 3 months that I have it my (used and out of warranty) x31 today surprised me with this strange vertical line right in the middle of the screen.

Does anyone ever experienced it or know what do I have to change in order to fix it? (inverter, lcd panel...?)

I excluded a software problem as the ine appears immediatly, even in the bios screen.
I hope it is not a motherboard/graphic card (!) problem.
So thet's why I think it's the inverter or LCD.

Something that may help: it is only visible when there is a grey image, and I can't notice it on a solid red, blue or green screen
here you can see it:

Thank you.

It's certainly not the inverter.

Graphics card and the LCD itself are a possibility, but it's most likely just the LCD cable. Cheap and relatively easy to replace.

of course I will try to change the cable, as first option, but how can you say it? I would like to understand what's happening...

I've run into this problem a few times before. It can be the LCD, LCD cable, or the video chip. The LCD cable would be the most likely to go out, it's being bent each time you open or close the lid.

A good way to rule out the video chip is to connect the laptop to an external monitor. If it displays fine on the monitor, then your video chip is ok.

In case you don't already know, the part number for the LCD cable is 08K4090. In the event that it's the LCD, 11P8224 and 11P8225 would be compatible.
