Lost spring!

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Fri Feb 08, 2008 11:45 am

I was replacing the keyboard bezel on my X41t and during the removal process the spring for the pcmcia door came off. I dont need it because im throwing it away, but what is worrying me is that I cannot find the [censored] thing. I have a feeling it still might be in the computer somewhere; on the motherboard for example.

I shaked the computer and used compressed air to remove it if it was still in there, before reassembly, but I dont think I saw anything.

So question, if that tiny spring is still in the computer could it do harm to the motherboard or other electrical circuits?

Sure, if it sorts out two traces on the board or the legs of some component it will fry them. Find it ... springs tend to fly out if released under tension, so it could be on the floor or nearby surface someplace.

Im almost 80% sure the spring flew out and is laying on the rug somewhere. I guess ill have to do a disassembly again to recover that 20%.

I am now 100% sure its not in the machine. I just did a complete disassembly and used half a can of compressed air; nothing.

It must have flown out on the floor.
