X31 will not Suspend - Freezes

#1 Post by verktyg » Sun Nov 28, 2004 6:48 pm

My X31 2855RGU works fine except that it freezes when going into Suspend.

Suspend When The Lid Is Closed is set in both the BIOS and WinXP. The screen goes blank, the On indicator remains lit but the system freeze. I have to hold the Start Button for 4 seconds and the system turns off. It reboots without a problem. Same problem happens when I try to Suspend from the Start Menu or with a low battery.

Suspend worked fine when I first got the system. I installed the latest Embedded Controller and BIOS with Default settings. After installing all of my software I discovered that the thing wouldn't Suspend.

I tried selectively disabling items in MSConfig Startup and Services Menu including disabling everything. I even installed WinXP SP2 from CD still no joy!

I called IBM TP Support and ran ALL of the diagnostic test. Everything came out normal. Their suggestion was to send it back and they would replace the main board - DOH!

I put in another HDD and did a clean install from my IBM Product Recovery CDs. Everything works great including Suspend in all flavors which rules out a hardware problem.

I'd do a clean install on my main HDD but it takes over 2.5 hours to install from the 5 CDs plus I have about 3 weeks of spare time installing all of my programs which I'd like to avoid reinstalling.

There must be some Service or program hanging. Any Ideas?
Chas.

Did you look in the Event viewer in the system management console for error messages when you had the suspend problems? If you still have the OS on the old HDD you could pop it back in to look at the event viewer and see if there are any errors under system and applications.
