Is it the backlight or inverter?
I notice my screen is a little bit darker now than before. It is not totally dim or has any pink hue. Sometimes when powering up it flickers a bit although it has been like that for some time now.
It is not all blacked out that one could hardly see the icons. However it is a little dark like how you see the screen while wearing sunglasses.
Is this an inverter or a backlight issue? How will I know which, are there any tests to check which one is failing?
Thank you.

I hate to see a question asked with no replies......
As far as I've read in this forum and what someone witty recently said, it's the chicken or the egg question.....
If I where you I'd replace the inverter and then you'll have a good idea which is at fault. There isn't a test that I've run across that tests the inverter or bulb through software. Nor do I know what the output of the inverter should be nor would I suggest someone attempt checking it without knowing how dangerous that is.
If it where mine I'd replace both the bulb and inverter because I can and because I've not seen a better answer yet.....lol.

Re: Is it the backlight or inverter?
It sounds like the backlight's starting to go. If you leave the laptop on for a while, does the screen get a bit brighter?r2d2 wrote:I notice my screen is a little bit darker now than before. :EDIT:
I forgot to mention it, but have you checked your brightness setting?

Thanks for the replies...
James... yes I checked brightness and also have tried leaving it ON for an hour or so but no improvement... still that slightly dim screen.
phool@round... thanks for the replies. Receiving no replies (at first) gave me the impression that no one in the forum knows if there is such a test or not. And it is quite normal in any forum. Having thought about it, why go through all the trouble in pinning down what caused it - I would replace the whole thing instead (LCD plus inverter).

This is the 'other' X21
and not the one on my sig. This is actually my mom's and I believe I have a another post on this where the problem is the lcd showing some works of art. Anyhow I do not think I still could sell this for any good amount because unlike the one you are selling in the Marketplace which is a real babe, this one is just totally the opposite.
I think I will just have to find an lcd replacement in eBay.. and since this is just an SVGA screen, I could probably get one for cheap. There's a lot of Thinkpad SVGA LCDs for sale in eBay but none is for an X21 or X20. I am just not too sure if the ones from an A2x or older Thinkpads would be compatible.
