Change or Continue this machine X40 Help needed

#1 Post by ThinkPadX40 » Mon Nov 29, 2004 2:13 pm

I bought 9 days ago after that I have learned IBM has new x31 with 1.7 Centrino better HDD max 2 GB Ram better VGA and most important with Combo Drive and not so weight (x31=3.6 lbs x40=3.2lbs)

Yes this x31 much money but if I knew this model I could

I have choses return back and buy new x31

or new model 1.4 centrino x40 (more faster)

I hear you say this has no end technology faster and we can not reach it

if we buy better system not too much time better is in the market

but I think my x40 is good if it has Combo Drive and not noisy and faster HDD it is better

I am angry with IBM if you launch latest model to the market You have to placed best devices

Not sure exactly what you are not happy about, but...
The X31 with Combo Drive requires the ultrabase, and it is then NOT 3.6 pounds, but about 5 pounds instead. I like the X31's features, but, by the time you add the ultrabase to it, it is about as heavy as the T42.
I don't like the ultrabase with either X31 or X40.

I mean that I do not like adding the base to the X31 or X40.
I think that adding the base ruins the small size of them.
Especially the X31, with the base it becomes quite heavy and thick.
The weight you quoted does not include the base or the combo drive.

Cheers!

both are the same weight?

IBM offical site techical features Weight is same but Travel Weight 2386 is much weight than 2371

I can't find those models in TABOOK, but...
Which battery does each one have?
If one has a 4 cell, and the other has an 8 cell, that would explain the weight difference.
Other than that, I have no idea.

Can the x40 have a dvdrw optical in it? or do you need a base for that also?

You need a base or a USB2 external drive.
The X40 does not have an internal optical drive possible without a base.
