SATA on x3 series? Are we doomed? Less ATA-6s on NewEgg

#1 Post by epu » Wed Feb 20, 2008 9:16 am

I'm assuming we can't use the newer SATA drives on the IBM x3 series? I've read that we're only capable of using ATA-6. New Egg has more or less stopped carrying 7200 rpm ATA-6 Drive (I went last night and only saw ONE ATA-6 7200 rpm drive, down from almost 25 a month ago).

I guess we should buy those cheap pull-outs off of eBay now just to have in case something goes wrong?

Unfortunately it's a 3 1/2 inch drive, otherwise I would get two!

This company has a lot of PATA drives for sale:

I have ordered from them on several occassions in the past. They do a good job at order fullfillment. Some of their pricing is crazy (CPUs), but for cables they are some of the least expensive I have found on the net. Lots of shipping options as well.

They have 7200rpm, 100GB 7K100s for $90 that still have a warranty until 2009, so they aren't refurbed drives.
