x40 (1,5) vs x41
hi,I am wondering what are the differences beween an x40 and an x41 beside the fingerprint if the configuration are similar. I have an x40 with 1,5ghz, 1gb ram and 40gb hard drive. What are the differences between this and a same description of an x41?
memory speed?
hd?
graphics x40= 64 mb intel 855 x41= 16mb intel 900 ?
Thanks a lot for your help,Regards

X41 will be a little more feisty because of the 533Mhz FSB, but given that you're stuck with that dreadful 1.8" HDD, you won't be able to notice it as much as you would in a somewhat different setting. And, yes, the battery life will suffer, not to a great margin, though...
Add a few bucks and get a X6x...my opinion only...

x41 vs x40
Oki
Thanks for the answers! My problem is that I found a x40 and x41 for the same price and with the same specs 1,5 Ghz 1gb memory and 40 gb hdd the only difference is that the x40 has a 64 mb Intel Extreme Graphics II and the x41 has a 16mb intel gma 900. I have found that the Intel GMA 900 is better in terms of graphic performance (does the 64mb vs 16mb make any difference?) but I wonder if it is worth the extra power consumption. I have also found that the x41 can have up to 2,5 gb memory while the x40 only can handle 1,5gb memory, And someone told me that the x41 is slightly heavier?
My problem is that I by accident ordered the x40 instead of the x41. Of cores was I devastated when I found out and if I want to change it will cost me about 80$ in handling fee and shipping. But if it is true that x41 has higher power consumption (same processor) and somewhat noisier (no noice is prio 1!
my t43 is way to noisy) I can find some peace in my mind knowing that I have some extra battery life and a more quiet machine.

Another point is the the X41 ram is super cheap, but the X40 uses the older expensive kind. However, having to pay $80 to switch nullifies that advantage.
Both used shared graphics memory, ie they grab some of the main ram for themselves. The amount is customizable, so there's an option somewhere to set the graphics memory to however much you want (the GMA900 goes up to 128mb). However, I'd set it to the lowest because unless you're trying to run a game (slowly
) or something that ram is better used in the rest of the system.

I just bought a X41 from Ebay, the machine is so sexy. Besides the 1.8HD, the only complain I have is the Battery, if I have option to go back, I may buy a X40.
X40 have longer battery life, plus I can buy 2 CF card - SSD t o replace the HD.
But anyway, I'm in Canada, don't want pay too much duty and Tax, I bought from a Canadian ebayer.

I'm still kinda confused with these 2 models. The X40 can be configured with the same CPU as the X41's, the only difference would be the RAM (400Mhz vs 333Mhz) and the graphic card (Intel 900 vs Extreme Graphics 2). But I heard the battery life (8 cell) is 8 hrs for X40 and only 5.8 hrs for X41, is that true?

The CPUs are really not the same, and it's 533Mhz vs.333Mhz FSB.
X41 hasn't been offered with low-end LV Banias CPUs, just with Dothans, where X40 had a much larger span of processors...

Honestly, I've never had a chance to compare, but a low-end LV Banias in X40 is likely to be significantly more frugal than the LV Dothan in X41...that's just theory, though. I don't know where the GPUs stand...and I generally don't require much of a battery life on my machines....
I have experienced some ridiculously good battery times with the X61s, though...

The difference in battery life is significant. My old X41 (1.5GHz) could run for about 5:10 on a brand-new 8-cell. My friend's 1.5GHz X40 ran for 7:30 on MY BATTERY. Nothing minor about that at all.
