X31 kb not working after Thinkvantage update

I completed the ThinkVantage download and let it run. After the final reboot at the logon screen, I'm able to use a mouse (not the trackpoint) to select a user name but there is no keyboard response. I tried booting with ubuntu and kb works and I was able to copy the kbdlcass, mouclass and i8042prt sys files but same result. Any it's a model 2672-j7u with windows XP Pro. Any thoughts on a solution?

(Re)Install following two packages

Keyboard Customizer Utility for Windows 2000, XP - ThinkPad.

TrackPoint Driver for Windows Vista 32-bit, XP - ThinkPad.

Read the installation instructions carefully as you may also require additional packages to make above two work in addition to info. like where the packages gets extracted.
