X31: Edimax Wireless 802.11bgn went with Atheros instead

#1 Post by UltraLight » Mon Mar 10, 2008 8:38 am

Hi everyone, I just got my X31 a week ago and I want to upgrade the wireless card on it. I have read almost all of the relevant wireless card upgrade posts on this site. But I have a question that I'm hoping you guys will be able to help me out on. I would like to install a mini-PCI wireless N card. Has anyone ever tried this on a X31 before? Most likely I will get the 1802 error, and I'm ready for that.
Does anyone have any experience with Edimax products?

Specifically This one EDIMAX Wireless Mini PCI 802.11bgn N

Update: I ended up against getting the Edimax and spent $5 plus shipping on this Atheros mini-PCI Wireless 802.11A/B/G Card 4 IBM

Hopefully It'll all work out when I try to install it. :?

P.S. I also purchased a Hitachi 7200rpm drive I'm hoping to install soon, I'm just waiting for the $20 IBM Hard Disk Enclosure
to arrive from China. (although I'm not too sure on how to do the HDD swap, even after reading all the posts I could find on it) :?

...not to mention that you ordered a card with a RaLink chipset, which is not exactly great. Where do you plan to run that 3rd antenna? (Draft-n products require 3 antennas to run well)
Proxima - X31 (2672-C2U)
Pegasus - X31 (2672-CXU)
Taurus - X24 (2662-MQU)
Nova - X41 Tablet (1869-CSU)

Eh, RaLink is alright. It has some advantages, such as being open source.
