Screen brightness

#1 Post by JonathanGennick » Tue Mar 11, 2008 4:25 pm

Does anyone know the "nit" numbers for screen brightness for the X30, X31, and X32? Is max brightness the same across all of those models?

Weepy, thank you. Lot's of good info on that page. Thanks much for the link.

I have an X30. Am thinking of picking up another X3-something, or maybe an X40/41 model. I'd like a brighter screen though. The information you link to is helpful.

brightness

#4 Post by scout233 » Wed Mar 12, 2008 4:04 pm

Hi, I recently bought an x31 and am in the process of doing some upgrades. The thing that i did not like most about the x31 was the brightness of the LCD. When on full brightness, it is just barely acceptable to my eyes. Then when disconnected from AC power.. and the brightness is stepped down a couple notches it is totally unusable. I have decided to replace the ccfl backlight to see if this makes an improvement. I just ordered the backlight from www.lcdparts.net. If you are interested, I will let you know how the process turns out.

From everything I have read here, it seems that the problem would be either the ccfl or the inverter board. In my example I think it is the ccfl. I am excited to do this project. It will be the first time I have replaced a backlight.

scout233: You can always turn off the "dim" feature when using the battery. It is located in the bios and Thinkpad Configuration allows you to change it in Windows if you don't wish to enter the bios.

Thanks dj.... and that is exactly what I do. However, even at the brightest setting, I am just not satisfied. And as the ccfl tube ages it begins to require more power to run... so i am thinking that a new ccfl will help my battery life a bit. It will be an interesting experiment... thanks for the reply

Is the brightness really that bad? I have never seen any complaints in the reviews of the X3* I have read.

I think it is decent. Only problem I have is when I'm outside on a sunny day.

My X41t IPS LCD is readable in sunlight just fine. Major advantage of x41t...
