X41t won't start up (bad battery or bad motherboard?)

#1 Post by ulrich.von.lich » Thu Mar 13, 2008 3:07 pm

The X41t was fine this afternoon when it arrives. The battery is new. (manufactured in Aug 2006 and first used in Sep 2007, 1 cycle) It happened while the battery was charging. When I unplugged the AC adapter, the laptop shutted down (the battery was in the laptop).

Now I can't power on the machine on battery. I can however power it on with AC adapter plugged in. The system can detect the battery. It says 72% on the battery gauge, but the battery won't be charged. And if I unplug the AC adapter, the laptop shuts down.

It acts as if like the battery was not there, expect the presence of the battery in Power Manager.

I know the best way to test it is to use another X4 battery, which I don't have. Is there any other way to determine the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
Tony

It's likely to be the battery. I had the same problem when I got my used x40. Only few hours after using, the laptop no longer power on battery. The seller sent a second battery and now it boots on the second battery. The first battery is a goner.
